Important Voices in the Community

Real-estate professional

"Homes that back on to greenspaces are always more desirable and worth more money than ones that do not.

"Many people search for golf-course locations because having the views and quick access to golfing is valuable . . . Therefore, if homes are built where the golf course is located currently, it could reduce the house values by $20,000 to $50,000, even up to $100,000 in some locations.

"With the new developments in Chelsea, Dawson's landing, Belvedere, etc., the last thing we need is more houses built in Chestermere. The golf course is a big draw to the community for homeowners on and off the course, so getting rid of it would be detrimental to the community as a whole."

"Chestermere's golf course is a highly valued part of our community. Offering an outdoor recreational opportunity, support for small business, community programs and a unique property investment for home owners. To exchange this for a housing development and financial gain for a few is very unfortunate."

Ainsley Elliott

Registered Psychologist

Chestermere Resident

Local Business Owner & Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine

"Every town and city strives to provide recreation, health and wellness for its residents. The Lakeside Golf Course is an incredible health asset to Chestermere, as it provides physical activity, mental stimulation, relaxation/stress management  and socialization to be enjoyed by all ages.

" As a local doctor of chiropractic medicine I encourage people to utilize the golf course as it promotes physical attributes such as flexibility, strength and power. In addition to this, encourages people to walk the beautiful course, enjoy the company of friends/family and take some time away from the hustle, all while soaking up some much needed Vitamin D.

Local residents

"With our kids now grown, it's time for us to downsize. We found a townhouse we liked and listed our house - after months of getting ready to sell. The timing of the listing coincided with the news article in the Calgary Herald about the golf-course redevelopment plans. Every potential buyer who has liked our house says buying it is too uncertain, given the news they'd read."

No development on the 18 hole golf course.

Let's be clear. I want to keep the 18 hole golf course. I personally do not want the development, as I live across from the course.

Plus, regardless what I want, the residents have spoken and said they do not want the course developed.

So let's get the course out of the hands of the current owners.

Bylaws are ok to help provide barriers to developing the course, but can be changed.

The best is to have the owners  and city place a registration on title, requiring a plebiscite, a public vote, to allow any development. Which effectively guarantees it will never be developed.

Hello Chestermere. I am NOT in favor of rezoning the Lakeside Golf Course, not even an inch. The golf course is an integral part of this city's beauty, character and quality of life. If given the opportunity to serve you again as your city councillor, I will oppose any form of rezoning to the golf course. Thank you for coming together on this very important issue.

Recreational Land – Re-zoning

I believe that any re-zoning request by developers should be subject to public opinion. Chestermere’s Master Development Plan designed and built the streets and neighborhoods around these areas. Plans that only reduce resident’s quality of life and lessens the original reasons for buying their home, should be declined. Recently residents have been clear that they do not want recreational amenities (The Golf Course) taken away.

Sandy Johal-Watt

Although an application for a permit to rezone the Lakeside Golf Course was never brought to city council, when it does come forward, Foat will not be in favour of rezoning the land.

“I look at this golf course as a viable business and a great green space in our city and it should be left as that,” Foat said.

I would like to again say thank you for all the work the board members and volunteers of the Lakeside Greens Golf Course Preservation Society have been doing on behalf of recreation in Chestermere.  As I have stated on multiple social media posts, we should not be rezoning the golf course. This is why I have taken the opportunity to go door to door with the Lakeside Greens Golf Course Preservation Society and hear concerns from residents and attended their event at Plaka Greek Taverna on September 13.  If I have the good fortune of representing the good people of Chestermere... I will make my position crystal clear again. I say NO thank you to rezoning of the Lakeside Greens Golf Course in Chestermere, AB.
